Medicare Supplement Plans G and N are both popular, and are very similar. Both are intended to cover gaps in Original Medicare, and both plans cover:
- Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs
- Medicare Part B coinsurance*
- Blood (first 3 pints)
- Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
- Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
- Medicare Part A deductible
- Foreign travel emergency
Plan N does not however cover excess charges or copayments. Plan N does tend to have lower premiums than Plan G, so Plan N may be a good fit for you if you want to save on premiums. While Plan G does have slightly higher premiums, it could potentially save you money in the long run if you visit the doctor frequently, or go to the emergency room a few times throughout the year.
Let us help you navigate the pros and cons of the various Medicare Supplement plans to ensure you find the right coverage.
*Plan N pays 100% of the Part B coinsurance, except for a copayment of up to $20 for some office visits and up to a $50 copayment for emergency room visits that don’t result in inpatient admission.
